i put up the same question and didnt get much feedback on the sport dog.

i have the older TriTronics Trashbreaker Ultra XL, never had a problem with it. bought it used, had been to the collar clinic- if you can find one well taken care of you cant go wrong. dont know much about the new EXPs but ive heard some people have had trouble with the trashbreaker G2s- my huntin buddy tried to shock his dog one nite under a clear powerline less than 100yrds away and it wouldnt hit him. havnt had a problem with mine. maybe theyve gotten all that staightened out.

marrying the collar to the transmitter is very easy
cant go wrong with tri tronics

I've got the sportdog 3200 and i love it. I use it on on my beagles and my black&tan comes with two antenas one for short range and one for long range. I hunt anywhere from the thickest nastiest stuff I can find to some nasty swamps, its waterproof and i hadn't had a problem yet works every time and anytime. I would recommend it to anyone.

I recently set out to buy a SportDog Hound Hunter 3200. I could not find one close to me, and I wanted to hold it or talk to someone who owned it before buying one. This forced me to look at and try other models, and I'm glad I did. Here are some things that I found out.
Tri Tronics will refund your money within the first 30 days if you are not satisfied,... it must not happen very much.
Tri-Tronics is the only major e-coller manufactured IN THE USA (ARIZONA), the charger is the only part imported.
SportDog and Innotek- CHINA
DT Systems and Dogtra-KOREA
Tri Tronics has done a lot of the research and development over the years that has brought us to where we are today in e-collars. I personally think we should support them when they make the most rugged high quality e-collar out there today and not just the most feature for the money model that is made who knows where. I personally chose the Tri-Tronics Classic 70 G2 EXP and I am very happy with my choice. Its' virtually indestructable and proven design meets most peoples' needs. The quality of manufacture is second to none. Good Luck

I will have to disagree on quality. I have broke my tri tronics collar 4 times in 8 months. The receiver breaks where the collar slides into it. This break is common from what Tri Tronics said to me. The only fix is a new collar at $145 per collar. The sportdog I have may be bigger but it has never broke a receiver and if it does the receiver is only $65. The Sport dog units do seem to be built tougher. Customer service with either company is excellent.

i owned an older trashbreaker and it worked flawlessly. at the end of the season, my gyp caught a coon on the ground. she brought the coon back to me, but the reciever and collar was gone. i figured the coon was pulling on it and it came undone. freak happening in my opinion. couldn't find it. i then purchased a classic field 70 g2 exp. i love it. i am going to purchase a second reciever for when i run two dogs. most of the time i only need a level 1 which simple reinforces the already learned commands. the highest ihave had to turn it up to was a 3 and that was for a guys hound that simply wouldn't quit running into the road. that hound will run and then sit by the road. it won't step foot on to it unless it is on a leash.

things i like about the new g2s are:

no external antena on the reciever
no on/off plug
better charging system
more compact
intensity dial instead of plugs

The receiver breaking is a common problem they say. It breaks because the plastic slot that the collar slides through is not thick enough. With a good enough hit it cracks. It is covered under warranty but only 2 times. If it happens more it is not covered. The Collar Clinic has a 6 month warranty. I have had to return my unit 3 times for problems inside of warranty. I had to pay each time to send it back inside of warranty. They are telling Tri Tronics that their warranty is 1 year but it is not. I have the new G2 series that is suppose to be made from lexon and that is bullet proof. The receivers are made smaller and fit better on the necks compared to the older units.

I also have the sportdog model and they are indistiuctable. No problems.

tenntreedog, the 3200 has been replaced with the 3225. I upgraded last month from the 3200 to the 3225 because of the added features:

Only thing on the 3225 I do not like is the cradle chargers..........was so use to the old style charging the collars.

- No 9v battery to replace in handheld
- 2 hour charging time on collars
- Tone/Vibrate on the collars
- Expandle to 6 dogs instead of 4

Drew...I believe the receivers themselves have been changed also. Is the collar just as hot as the original ones since SportDog had different receivers? And are the collar attachment points just as hardy as the original ones?

Yes, the transmitter is alot nicer, smaller and more user friendly......Love the charging feature on it.

Still as hot and points look the same.

Really hate the cradles as been spoiled on the plug and go of the other collars.

Also, the collars are 3/4 instead of 1".

Here is pics of all the new set-up:
