The new systems will be better for the mountain men and will be charged a fee of 35$ a year.

LNewman,

I don't think there will be a yearly charge on them..

I could be wrong.. I think the yearly charge will be "if" the 320 is compatable with birdseye view. (Which I'm guessing it will be)

Then to use Birdeye satelite imaging software on your Astro it will cost yearly, But you'll actually get to use satelite images on your GPS, so it would show things like Fields, woods, etc on your satelite, Think Google Earth on your GPS

That's where I could see a Yearly charge. It's just an option but isn't a requirement.

I don't think there will be a yearly charge to use the Astro...

The 320 will be available with the birdseye view. The subscription will be around 30 dollars a year I believe. It won't be REQUIRED, though.

I think its GREAT! but when i will REALLY be impressed is when they implement the features of the Garmin RHINO's into the astro handheld. The Rhino's are used for communication and people tracking. it was exactly like the astro accept other people that had rhinos were tracked on the gps screen.

So in our situation Me and Bob go huntin. our dogs split tree i use my hand held to track in to my dog and bob does the same. we get there and we dont have cell signal to tell each other where to meet and we dont wanna go back to the truck. I can look on my handheld and see Bob's EXACT position. The unit also doubles as a hand held radio. i can talk to bob THROUGH our Garmin Handhelds.

THATS when i WILL DEFFINATLY spend a thousand dollars on the new Garmin AstroComm. the GPS DOG TRACKING, PEOPLE TRACKING, AND 2 WAY RADIO.

THAT my friend will be garmins next step. mark my words.

I've been feild testing the Astro 320 for Garmin. When we first started they asked us what features we'd like to see in the new one, I asked them about the walkie talkie feature but was told it would run the cost of the unit up and they didn't think it would be a big seller.

The downloads you have will not expire. Your ability to download more will expire in exactly 365 days. If you download everything you need, you will not have to renew.

I havnt downloaded the birds eye view yet. I am curious about somthing though.

On google earth you can choose the date of the images you want to use, I hunt in the mountains and it is all very thick country. in the spring and summer google earth images suck all you can see is dense green vegetation. in the fall and winter it is way better since you can actually distinguish land features and such. so my question is.. Is the birds eye view similar to that, where i could choose the date and not have to use spring/summer images?

on to my next question.

Utah division of wildlife offers KML downloads for google earth and it highlights borders and such for big game units. Is there a way I can convert KML to the birds eye view?
