I have a dog that was leading good. For some reason, this year, he has decided to go. At 100lbs he could pull a sled and probably beat Buck on 'Call Of The Wild'.
I would like to hear your ideas on how to stop him from doing that.

i got one that likes to pull to. ive started to make her walk beside me not out front, it seems to work alittle better that way. if she starts to pull to much i crack her butt with the end of the leash. that seems to get her more worred about watchin me instead of pulling so much. still a working progress though. its getting better.

get a small switch but big enough to inflict a sting. pull him back to where hes behind you and every time he tries to get in front of you ( in other words past your side) pop him on the nose with the switch. hope this helps.

Keep him beside ya, and whenever he decides he wants to get ahead and pull, give him a tap on the nose with a riding crop. A riding crop can be one of the best and cheapest hound training tools you ever own. I've also had success using the e collar for reinforcement as well, just make sure your dog knows how to heel before you reinforce it with the collar.
Hop this helps

Buy a pinch collar I use them on bloodhound, shepherd, mals I have trained a lot of police dogs. The last thing u want to do is be heavy handed when u don't need to be. Trust me I have walked across water to get to my dog when he was not doing what he should have done. Every hard headed dog I put a pinch collar on with long lead they will train themselves and no heavy hand from you. There is a good time a place for a good old fashion butt whipping but when they can learn somethin on there own its better for the both you. I have used a riding crop when the dog knows healing but not to whip him but to tap him on his chest and it brings them back in place.

Put him on a very short leash to where he can't even bend down without it gaging him, u can use a choke chain in combination with this. I would just try this while just walking him. Wouldn't recommend
Trying to do this while hunting, might discourage the from trying to pic up a scent. Hope this helps

Thanks Guys, I've tried some of these and the others I will put into effect. I may have to combine two or three of them together, but he IS going to stop pulling on me.
I'll let you know what worked.

Snap your leash in collar as usual and then put a half hitch around his mid section.

The way I have broken my hounds from pullong is to take the leash and slap thy across the back ever time thy pull. My son has a bone disses and it is hard on him when the hounds pull. We have the half Chain half nylon leashs, and when the dog starts to pull give the chain a little slack and pop it across is back. it doesnt hert them as bad as a switch. I have brokin many hounds this way and it only takes a couple pops. I hope this helps.

i do the exact thing the guy above me said to do i dont do it very hard but they no its there.after a handful of times gettin hit by that leash they handle like a champ. i rarely walk back to the house holdin the leash and shes right beside me paying attention to me and only me. when she does get a step or 2 ahead all i gotta do is say her name and shes right back at my side before you can blink.before you would nonstop be pullin on her.she may not hunt like a champ but she does handle like 1.hope this helps.also i test them out ill stop every now and then and see if theyre payin attention to me.it sure makes it a lot more enjoyable.

The half hitch works pretty good. He don't like it at all. Several times I have had to hit him with the shock collar to make him stop acting like an idiot. I believe in time he'll get right but this is showing me just how hard headed that dog can be.

When I leash train my dogs I use a simple choker collar and a lot of patience. I start them in areas that are pretty boring and end up stopping every 5 seconds saying "heel." I just progress until we are in highly active areas. I have a prong collar that I used once to start the training but moved back to chokers once he figured it out.

Just depends on how much it matters to you; if you don't care enough to put the time into it then use those various collars that wrap around their noses or leashes around their stomachs, etc. Pick and choose your battles. I had one dog that I didn't much care how he walked so he just wore a prong collar. The rest all went through the choker method.
