i think i am starting to develop the same problem.....awhile back my dog got sprayed by a skunk but he went on and treed a coon after he had got sprayed and he never barked at the skunk so i didnt correct him in anyway since he just ran across it......then the other night i went and him and another dog that i was hunting for a guy started barking at what i thought was a coon at the time but the closer i got i could smell skunk and they stopped barking....when i got there they was rolling around on the ground trying to get it off of them.....i corrected my dog pretty good and made them follow me behind the pickup back to the house....i know it wasnt the other dog because mine started barking first so i dk if this is going to become a problem or not......any advice/help would be appreciated

AHHH...... my specialty  I can tell ya what doesn't work! Pulling a dead skunk out of your hounds mouth and thumpin him with it  Did you know it takes a good while for that smell to wear off a human? :? LOL. I aint got much for big game or coon dogs but man what a pack of skunk hunters I feed!

I have had good luck doing this... Catch a skunk in a live trap and a coon or cat or whatever you hunt in another. Put them about 25 yards apart. Walk your dog into and downwind from the skunk let him start towards the skunk scent and bump him off with an e-collar. Let him immediately work into the game of choice in the other cage and only let him fire it up for a few seconds then pull him away and put him up for a couple of hours in an isolated and quiet place. Bring him back out and repeat. Only this time do it twice in a row before you put him up for another couple of hours. Bring him out again. I am willing to bet on this third try he will avoid the skunk altogether and go for the good animal. If or when he does, release it for him and let him run and tree it. If it is legal in your area, knock it out for him and let him wool it good but do not let him tire of it. Pull him off while he is still way fired up and put him up. It is critical that you do this when the dog has a completely empty stomach. Don't feed him the day prior or the day of doing this. Feed him good when you are done and let him stay in the pen for a couple of days without any stimulation at all. Just food and water. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
