I have a six year old walker female that I haven't hunted much in the last four years due to my job. She started easily as a pup and has always been hunted alone. Before my job interfered with hunting her she was well started and showing some real promise. She was running and treeing on her own and usually had the meat. I have recently started hunting her HARD again and she seems to lack the confidence to commit to a tree. She does a good job tracking but when she get's the coon treed she runs the track over and over again instead of treeing. When she does EVENTUALLY tree she is as accurate as any man could expect, but she may spend hours running the last 100 yards of track before she zeroes in on the tree. She didn't have this problem before and I am at a loss as to how to correct it.

WEAR A LIGHTED COLLAR ON HER AND WATCH HER. WHEN SHE TAPS THE TREE GET IN THERE AND GET HER ON THE TREE. WORK WITH HER ON THE TREE AND KNOCK THE COON OUT TO HER. I BET SHE COMES BACK AROUND. YOU DONT WANT HER TO MAKE A HABIT OUT OF JACKING THE TRACK. GET HER WHERE SHE CAN GET SOME HOT EASY TRACKS TOO.

I have tried that, but if you snag her on the first tree that she appears to tap alot of time she doesn't have the coon. If you let her lock down she most always has the coon, she just takes forever to commit. Slick treeing isn't a problem for her and I hate to encourage her to tree on a tree that may not have the coon and create a slick treeing problem.

It might just take awhile .She might never be the dog you hoped for..But you never know unless you keep hunting her...She could have turned out like this anyway...You really never know about any dog.All you can do is your best and see what happens........
