A good e-collar and lots of training time are the best way to break any dog off of unwanted game.

I would reccomend actually looking for bear tracks and deer tracks to do the breaking. I have always figured that the best way to break from trash is to put em on a lot of trash so they get a lot of imput that it is not a good thing to show interest.

So take her out put her on a fresh bear track and if she shows interest in it use the E-collar,and do the same for deer?
This is the first hound i've tried to train.
Also she will follow a coon drag but she wont bark untill she sees the coon,(she doesn't bark as shes trailling it).How can I get her to start barking or will it just come with time? And I also shouldn't use too many drags,or let her see too many coons?
Sorry for all the ?'s.

WI,
Now, I'm no trainer, but here's what I did.......
First, how old is the dog? My pup did not open on track at first either.
I'm training my first pup too with the aim on running lions. I've used a few caged coon timed releases for training purposes, to get her to use her nose and learn to tree etc. When I released a coon and let it wander off, I'd go back and get my unsuspecting pup and let her happen across the fresh track of the coon. At first, all she wanted to do was track it, no voice. I'd hold her back on the lead and only let her inch forward bit bt bit, encouraging her to open with positive commands. This tends to get them worked up, and they learn / accossiate opening with a coon track.
Also, I've done some caged coon drags across grassy ground and then hung the caged coon in a tree. Same deal......... go get the pup and let it track it, holding it back on the leade and encouraging it to open. Once you / it gets to the tree, the pup ought to really open up. Try moving the cage up and down on the rope rubbing against the tree. This gets 'em worked up to.
Now, once the pup has opened and has treed........MISSION ACCOPLISHED. Less than one minute only at the tree is required. Pull the dog off at it's height of excitement, just after much verbal rewarding. I like to pick the dog up and carry it away from the tree, so as not to give it mixed messages. Now put the pup up for the rest of the day with no more stimulus. Let that last thought of treeing percolate away in it's memory banks......imprinting if you will.
Why such a short time at the tree? Well, just like icecream and a kid..... if a kid had unlimited access to icecream each and every day as a kid, do you think that kid would grow-up wanting icecream as an adult? Not likely........ Don't over do it on the traing caged coon. If your dog is bred right, it'll know exactly what to do. You just need to point it in the right direction. Since you'll be hunting coon and not lion, you might want to do some of this training at night. Once you dog is tracking / treeing a timed coon release, stop the training. It'll serve no further purpose. Go hunting.
Non of this info was / are my ideas. I have gleaned bits and pieces from many knowledgeable folks on this and other boards. Thanks to them my pup is progressing well.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like some really good stuff to me,She's a 1 year old female B&T.
I just need to spend more time working with her,I can tell she has a nose on her and she likes the trail things. Her only other problem is that she is a little timid, but she's getting better.
Anyone else have an op?

show her a lot of good game before you start shocking her. Shocking too much can ruin a young dog too
