its all on the dog. just give him some time. he will come around...them rat dogs are usually loud, mouthy dogs *from what i have seen* But the main thing is that he is still a puppy, Just give him some time...im sure u got a good one =D

well he opens on and off now. but his problem now is slick treeing or tapped trees. Just last week he put two up the same tree and did excellant. then last night he treed twiced and never seen a coon. should i just lead him away from the tree and wait til the leaves fall off to woop him. is it possible that he just goes til he finds coon scent on a tree and then trees on it cause sometimes like last night we took a seasoned dog and he went to mexico before he treed and my pup went to the bottom of a hill and treed. i have no problem keeping weight on him...i feed black gold 26/18. his poop has been a little runny even though i just wormed him on the 20th.

i personally like a dog that doesnt open to much on track but i hunt cats. i think it gives the dog a little more advantage because the game you hunt doesnt now were the dog is all the time and when they do open they might be closer to the game then the game aniaml thought and is more pressured in to treeing. i have a dog that the whole litter was opening every step when they were 4 months old mine was the only one out of the whole litter that didnt open till the track got real hot or she jumped the critter then she would only open maybe every 100 or so yards she is still like this but when she warms it up she opens alittle more then when she was a pup. the slick treeing maybe she is treeing on a tree thatthe coon slept in eather ways when the sog does this just leash her up and walk away if there isnt anything in the tree. i dont have alot of experence in slick treeing dogs so my advise isnt the best but the time my dog did slick tree i just leashed her up and walked off not saying anything to her she new i wasnt to happy with her and she only did it like a couple more times through out the year. with the runs i am not sure what that is i feed black and gold and every now and then my dogs will have the runs but it only last for maybe 2 days then they dont have them any more. just watch him, make sure he doesnt start lookin sick or anything.
