If it can" be shocked out of him there is only one way to cure it and that is with a . 22 bullet , A trait like this has to be taken care of when they first show signs when they are younger. The key is socializing them with everthing from dogs and people when they are pups. Hope this helps you some.

who ever just posted that i dont know if they even to deserve to hunt all you got to do is put a manual shock collar one him and every time he is aggresive to another dog reach out and touch him with that collar it will only take about three times and if that dont work knock something out of a tree that has a little bit more grit than he does. The collar should work though. i cant belive that guy told u to shoot him

Skeeterhawk, for what it's worth,I agree with you.Agression usually comes from breeding and you can't shock it out, beat it out,or train it out.The bad ones need a bullet and taken out of the gene pool.Too many good young hounds get ruined by these "alligators".I have zero tolerance for it.You'll find your self out of good dogs and out of good partners quick.JMO.

there has to be a reason the dog is agressive so i dont think you should shoot him just because the dog is agressive thats how we got Tar heel Cleotous the guy that owned him was goin to shoot him and his daddy because they started fighting on the tree but he wasnt feeding his dogs right so we told the dogs to get in the truck they got in and the guy gave us the papers and thats how we got Tar Heel Mike and Cletous and them two dogs aint ever fought again since they have been feed right they actually back off the tree if a dog is bein agressive to them and go to the other side of the tree

My view is with skeeterhawk and Ridgerunner66. I've never seen a dog be completely cured of being ill. Maybe cured while you are standing there but not when they are out of your sight. Just shows what bad breeding and not culling right can get you.

if bad breeding is the reason, and its not. explain to me how you can get a litter of pups from great dogs that have never been ill and one out of the bunch turns out ill. its not the breeding. i bet if you have brothers and sisters you are not all just like your parrents. if it is the breeding and you breed dogs, the next litter you have and one doesn't turn out good shoot the whole litter and then the parrents of the litter too. well you claim it is the breeding so end it. no one in there right mind can explain what happens to every ill dog out there to cause their temperment, but i know its not the breeding. try and correct the problem and if it can't be fixed then put the dog down, its the right thing to do for everyone.

How can you say that a BAD trait isn't because of breeding....but a GOOD trait is because of breeding. If a dog trails hard and trees accurately you say it was because of his breeding. Why else would you breed the best champion dogs?? The reason you do is to hopefully get a pup with the same type of grit, talents, and characteristics as the parents.

I agree that you should do everything you can to find the reason as to why the dog was being ill and try to correct it. Perhaps this dog was only ill with another dog as an isolated incident. Maybe it only happened one time. If that is the case then I'd guess that there was a specific reason for it.....in which case it can probably be corrected. But if this dog has made a habit of bein growly and fighting with other dogs....then in my opinion there'd be no cure for it. You can shock him, beat him, smack him around, etc etc but I dont imagine it would do any good. Also I'd be willing to bet that if you studied an ill dogs pedigree....I bet you'd find an ill dog or two somewhere in its past. It might not be the parents or even the grandparents but I bet there'd be one or two back there somewhere.

I couldn't agree more with the last sentence in your post thunder.

every hound that ever walked has the potential of throwing good hounds, bad hounds and mean hounds. It is are respon. as breeders to only breed the best and the ones with the traits we enjoy. hopefully nobody breeeds mean hounds on purpose. It can come from breeding or enviorment just like being shy or goofy. period.

What is one of the first things someone asks when you try and sell them a dog?Is he mean or fussy, will he fight on the tree? Why do you think this is?If it was easily remedied,it would'nt matter so much to them.I don't care how good a coon dog he is or what titles he has,if he's ill I don't want him.I have only been in this game 25 years and I am still learning for sure, but I belive it is breeding,at least the biggest part of it.Strict culling and breeding the best to the best will make it less common.I like John Wick's philosophy on the matter, read it if you get a chance.

i agree with you ridge runner the guy he got the dog from swore up and down that he wasnt ill or fussy in any way. we took him with a male one time and a female the next. i have hunted with both of these dogs for 5 years and they are not ill or fussy in any way. but the bluetick started both of the fights.

Have you talked to the person who sold him the dog?I am assuming he will not refund the money,it's a hard lesson learned and money lost but don't stoop to his level and try and pass the dog off to someone else, let everyone know who they are and what they did.Remember your honesty and reputation is worth way more than what you gave for this dog.Everyone out there who has bought hounds for any length of time has been cheated and lied to.I have, more than I care to recall(lol)Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

First of all neuter him. A bullet is the answer if you do not have time nor want to deal with it BUT it can be overcome with time. You also may want to consider that his dog needs to be hunted alone.
