I have a Walker that is a great dog but he has sensitive skin, the other day I noticed his collar was rubbing the under side of his neck raw. He is also red and kinda inflamed looking on his belly a lot of the time? Any ideas on a treatment or something that will toughen his skin/fur up?

Is he lethargic? I had a hound that I thought was just real lazy once. Loved to hunt but laid around all day. One day I noticed his fur was thinning. Turned out to be a staph infection. A month of antibiotics his skin completely changed color fur grew in and he was a whole different dog!

For a sore neck you can run the collar through a sock with a hole cut in the toe. I found that nylon collars can be very rough on their necks but leather collars don't seem to cause that problem.

Is this a walker problem or the stuff they are putting on these day glo collars. I have two and they both are that way. I have switched over to leather and seems to be helping it.

I'm pretty sure it's the collars. The problem usually clears up when the collar is switched to another type. I don't know if the day-glo makes a difference. I don't use any type of nylon collar because they're so abrasive they rub the hair off.

Consult a vet to know the proper antibiotic for his skin problem.
