Does anyone have any plans or pictures of a good homeade dog box for the back of a truck? I would like it to hold 2 or 3 dogs. Thanks Craig

I don't have any pictures or plans for you, but I will tell you what I am going to make. It's going to be about 2'x2'x3'6", with a welded mesh door on the front, and pleanty of air vents (the circular ones that you see on horse trailers and such).

Make sure you measure the width of your truck bed as this box is too wide for my newer Ford (05) truck.

fit two full grown hounds like a glove, could fit three if ya didnt have to go to far. i no longer have the open windows on the side. dilled some air duct vents (regular housin air vents) to the windows to keep the weather out. real nice box. hardest part was figurin in the wheel wells, other than that, an easy box to make. only downside is you cant see crap out my back window

Here is my dog box i ended up building. Its 38"x40" with about 4-5" of storage in the top. i used some doors off an old box. It cost me around $90 to build, and around 3 hrs.

We made ours out of plywood, but just for beagles. But it works for our hounds to.

my box is 42"x42"x25". plywood= $11.00, hog pannel with 2"x4" holes= $25.00, 3 20ft pieces of 1" angle iron 1/8" thick at $11.00 each and a little time. it has a expanded metal floor from scraps i had laying around. About $70 to build and can fit probably 4 dogs easily.

Does anybody make their own boxes for the truck? That could hold 2 dogs and 1 or 2 people can load and unload with minimal grunts and cussing? :?
I can weld but looking for it to be wood. Its a lot cheaper that way. I've made a couple but they always end up weighing seems like 400 pounds. I don't need any storage or anything fancy. Just a solid box that I can handle and saftley carry a couple hounds in and keep them dry.

Any ideas or plans?
Thanks

The lightest weighing homemade one I have ever seen was made from two plastic 55 gallon drums. It worked out real well.

I have been wanting to make a box to fit in the back of my 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee. Its hard to fit the plastic boxes in there and still have room for my buddies. I have used a hitch mounted cargo carrier with dog boxes, but I still would rather keep the dogs inside.

I am in the process of making a box out of an old plastic pickup bedliner. It is way lighter and cheaper that wood. I am using aluminum angle to build the frame. Will post pics when done.
