I have never been bear hutnin with dog mostly bc there is none around here me and a buddy of mine heard that if you take a coondog and put it around bears it will trail them we heard they smell like a coon is it true? We would like to give it a try somtime in the future but realy dont know much about it thanks

I don't know if they smell like coon but, I use my plotts for bear and coon. I start my pups out on coon till they are running and treeing on their own. then I switch them to bear. Some say this cause you headaces when they tree a coon while you are bear hunting but, I would rather have that than run a deer. If you ever get up in wisconsin around july, august, we run about every day.

ya we no nothing of bear, last night it just came up when we was turning out about what it would be like to run a bear and what the race would be like...so in the future we are looking forward to givin it a whirl and see what happens we would have to drive a ways to do it tho...how many hounds do you use? and whats the race like?..i bet its long but i dont know

Here in wisconsin we are limited to 6 dogs per race. You can add dogs if one happens to fall out of race. The races vary just like any other. Sometimes they are fast paced and pounding, then if you get on a big bear sometimes they are slower cause the bear is just walking but, they are always a lot of fun. I used to spend a lot of time coon hunting when I was young but, when I started running bear coon hunting just was not the same.

Training season starts july 1st and goes through August, our kill season starts in september and goes into october.
