Hi guys, I'm working on training a 6 month old Bluetick for coyotes and just wondering if a a frozen pelt would hold scent to work with him with while its's still cold out so it does rot ? I was thinking of rolling into a tight ball and just playing with him with it and add a few drops of fresh urine to it and getting him started on tracking it.Thanks alot for any help.

I do it with coon hides. Ill vacuum seal them & freeze. Ill thaw it out & take the pup to the woods about a 5 minute drive. Ill drag a trail with the pup still in the box them let them out to find it. As soon as they do ill go back re-seal & re-freeze. I probably used it at least 10 times before it "seemed" like the scent was going away. I did that with my last one & she's 3 yrs old now. I did notice after using fresh hides I bought a couple commercial scent products and she wouldn't even bother with them so I went back to hides. And the first time I did tie it to my Salmon fishing pole and tease her and get her to chase it around the yard.
