I don't think I've had a dog who Didn't eat grass! My old german shep. dogs only ate grass before they threw up. My greyhounds were very different- they eat grass and Do Not throw it up. At least not often. The greyhound we still have will eat grass when he can to stimulate his Poo action. He WILL go poo without it but prefers to eat a bit first. The grass always comes out later on...in another poo, undigested. Why??? NO IDEA.
My coonhounds- they like to graze on grass at times. If the BnT skips breakfast and seems to have a belly ache he'll eat grass and get sick unless you notice and get him to eat. The bluetick rarely gets sick but will go for grass before hand if he's near any. All of the hounds here, our past and present greyhounds and coonhounds have eatten grass and NOT thrown it up so it is NOT JUST to throw up.
The big WHY??? I think they Like it. They will pick and choose which type they eat and when. SOme like clovers, some don't! One here LOVED dandelions and ate EVERYONE that bloomed! The others don't even notice them. The living Greyhound will eat a particualr weed(can't remember what it is but it is an flower of some sort).... ONLY if his stomach is upset and will seek it out- it may be goldenrod or ragweed? but he eats only the leaves! We have different actual sorts of grass too(old horse pasture) and they will not eat every type??? WEIRD!
Once I got the hounds... I decided that most "theories" about dogs... were not all able to apply to hounds....LOL... Hounds are just weird! AND... most of us foolish enough to own them... are too!
Happy Hunting! Heather
Can't wait to hear the REASONS they eat it...someone must know!
