The guy said he just saw one dog, not a pack? It's very doubtful that one dog could kill a full-grown cow unless something weird happened (like the cow got its head wedged in a tree or brush). Even then, you'd surely see the blood on your dog. Did you see the cow or pictures of it? When dog packs go after livestock, they usually don't do it like a lion going for the throat. They're more likely to bite whatever they can grab, ears, genitals, tails, bellies. I wouldn't pay him a dime unless he could prove it, and I doubt he can. Let him try to take it to court. (If he had the evidence, he probably already would have filed against you.) It's a shame you're losing your hunting lease over it, but I wouldn't trust him not to shoot your dogs on sight after this anyway.

You guys are thinking too hard. A 2 pound dog could easily kill a cow if it was chasing it and the cow slipped, tripped or fell and broke a leg.

first off i dont think no coon dog is gonna have a jaw to do that, would take something like a pit, and even then i would have to have rabbies or somethin to be that blindly angry. and if the old man wants 25k for his cow he is out of his mind. i would put the blame on either bear or a group of coyotes. if you have wolves where you hunt them damn things could be responsible as well.

Was bored and reading threads. Very interesting story. What was the outcome? I myself find it hard to believe that a hound would kill a cow. Please update us!
