I bought a 1 yr old pup that was supposed to be started. come to find out, he wasn't. The man paid a guy to start him, and he obviously didnt, so he gave me a 3 yr old dog to make up for it, and said he would tree coon, but the man that hunted it for him walked him, so you have to walk him. Season's been in for almost a week, and i havent seen fur in a tree yet. The old dog DOES look good on the tree when he does decide to try and tree. The coon dont seem like they've been movin too good here in indiana this week though, so maybe thats the problem.??? The pup goes out and takes the old dog hunting, even though he knows nothing, the pup gets out and at least tries to hunt. My question is this--- should i continue to hunt the pup with this dog? maybe the coon just arent movin too good with this full moon. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't it will just teach the pup you need to walk him to.Sounds like both you and the first owner got the wrong end of that deal.If I pay someone to hunt a dog they had better hunt them I want to see what my dog has picked up on with them.
hunt them more then decide, tough week with the moon hunt their feet off

I treed two coons this week for sure and one was in a hemlock that i couldnt see the top. I kinda walk mine on saturday i went with a guy who doesnt and my pups stayed right with his dogs and treed 700 yards from us. It was cool but I like walking a little too. I guess its up to the hunter
I would suggest huntin him by himself. However frustrating and time consuming it may be he will eventually learn to just go. The trick is to find the balance in walking a dog and chasing a dog. I would wait till he is starting to go by himself and stay about 150 yrds or so behind him and pay him no attention unless he trees and then rub him up like he ##*%* a gold terd. It should work out. Good luck to the both of you
Hunting has pretty ruff so far this year in My part of Indiana..Not hitting very good tracks at all.Caught a few on the ground..I dont like hunting on windy moon light nights anyway..LOL...
