cedar and pine bedding sometimes causes allergic reactions and the dogs can inhale the chips. I think it's made several ways with one being worse than the other in terms of inhaling. I've used it over the years in the summer with one hound getting scratchy and itchy with hot spots that cleared up after a time when the bedding was removed and the areas he'd scratched treated topically. Good luck. Curious to see what others have used- maybe some bedding we haven't thought of- shredded newspaper, etc??? Paul Conway.

The best bedding for adult dogs is a good eatting hay...Ive found that straw can have mites in iT. Plus Fleas like its also..Unlike Hay.......I will still use straw...Only If I have no choice..Hay around here is real hard to find right now.Unless you want to pay $8.00 a bale. Its usually $3-4.00..A round bale of grass hay is selling for $100 a 1000 pound roll........Last year you could buy a grass roll for $25-35.00..A good eatting hay is $150-200 a roll.......

I use cedar shaving and never had a problem with allergies. I have always heard that using hay can cause mainge.

In the summer I use cedar in the winter I use hay I always spinkle some seven dust in the bedding to keep down the fleas and ticks plus the it gets into their skin and helps keep down the tics fleas and flies down on them I have had some dogs that I can't use cedar on because of alergies but very few and I will switch bedding on them but I have had only one dog in the past few years that's been that way

I have used cedar for all my dogs and never had a problem. Never knew some dogs were allergic.

Do you use striaght sevin or do you use the sevin-5?
I have been using the same method as you do for some time now.Ceder in the warm months and straw in the colder months.I use sevin-5 in the dog house.I was told sevin or sevin-10 is too strong for a dog to come in contact with and have heard cases where a dog has died form it.

I use the seven five also just because it treats what I want but have used the others with no problem before all these flea and tick remedies that's all we had never had a problem and its more economical

I use sevin-5 in the houses and on the dogs a time or two a season and sevin-10 on the yard monthly. The neighbor said he has fleas pretty heavy inside and out.I don`t have a lick of them.I quit using the Bio-spot topical I had been using before the sevin.

I love the fact that it`s organic also.No chemicals to worry about on the veggies or flowers around the yard.

i use cedar shavings. i like it. it does seems to discourage fleas and it makes the dogs smell better. i tried a good fed hay and my cur scratched all the time. that's why i went to the cedar shavings. no problems since.

my hound shares the bed with my husband and me : ) However, during the day, I throw an old blanket on the porch for him to sleep on in good weather. We use a mover's pad most of the time, but he prefers wool to all else. I crochet a lot of afghans, and he sometimes drags one out for himself.
