Quickcrete is just a mixture of lime, flyash, and a few other things that are found in regular concrete. It is set up so you just have to mix it with gravel/rock and water. When you are done mixing, it is just like concrete right off the truck and will hold just as long.

Just don't make the mistake of leaving the bag out in the rain. You end up with a bag-shaped brick.

I poured a 12 by 30 kennel with ready mix. I poured the first section 2 years ago in the spring. The rest last summer. The first is about 2 inches thick. No problems yet. The other section is 2-3 inches, depending on the ground. I didn't spend as much time leveling it. I would recommend this for anyone. Its better than dirt and not so expensive all at once. All I am doing is letting my dogs crap on it. If you have the money then pour the whole thing. If not, this works. Concrete and contractors are very expensive in this area.

IF your doing more then 40sq ft. It is cheaper and easier to have a ready mix truck it in. One yard of concrete will do around 80 sq ft @4" thick. That's roughly 45 80lb bags of quickrete. Just my .02

How is it cheaper when the concrete companies have a 6 yard minimum?

Most don't have a 6 yard minimum. You would just have to pay a "small load" fee. 60% of the concrete jobs i do are under 6 yard pours at one time.

Never, just leave it dirt bottomed. Concrete will give them arthritis.

dry red clay and concrete there is not much of a differece in how hard it is but there is in how slick it is if you go to feed on a rainy night after 20 something years of this you start to figger things like this out

That statement gets thrown around every time someone mentions concrete but other than some told me and it makes sense never saw any evidence or study to validate it. My 8 year old hound began to slow down at 6 years old and this has continued. He can still get out there and do the job for a day but back to back is tough and he's noticablly stiffer after running. He's been on dirt the last 4 years and dirt then gravel before that. Had he been on concrete his whole life I'd have attributed it to the concrete and not age. just wondering if anyone has any studies that show this to be true. Paul Conway.
