I've never caught a squirrel in a cage trap, but for coons, I can't find anything better than the old sardines.

I aslo made up some hog bait this summer( bag of corn 8 rasberry jello boxes put it in a five gallon bucket with warter let it sit in the hot sun for one week. have to burp it or will blow the lid off or crack or bucket) any way I set up a trail camera on it and had 7 coons that sat on it and ate it all in two days you should see them all laying around passed out! lol! I will try to find the pics and post them. I was wishing I had a dog at the time would have been good for a pup shoulda been easy to tree abunch of drunk coons that is if they could climb a tree!

When I was younger we used any fish meat we could get. Then we started catching too many cats.A buddy told me to use most any thing sweet. He said cats won`t mess with it and coons love it.I have since used cookies with great success.Maybe even a little coon scent to make them think, now why is there coons going that way...

Coon aren't going to care about coon scent, if they smell food they'll go for it.

The only scent I would use is Oil of Anise.

I use the corn on the cob like you would use for a squirrel feeder. One cob, smeared with peanut butter and tied to the pan with a zip tie.
