Im with you tminer Im not letting no fur buyer have them that cheap Ill let them rot in the sun first.Ive been ripped off buy fur buyers alot and so I dont have much respect for most of them(not all). But Id rather they went to auction empty handed then buying them at 5 dollars. We are players in this game to and we are no less important.

One of the guys i hunt with took about140 in and had 4 culls and 5 that were extra large and got 8.50 each. So from here one out i will only knock one out just to let the dogs have a treat now and then i have not sold a coon in 3 years and the size of the coons that i have seen this year are good sized because of it. Its great hunting for them young pups. You can tell where the people shoot all the coons and leave nothing there is no coons left. I like to take a kid now and then but they get tired out if they have to walk to far so why not leave them in the tree for next time. Its always a good time when you find a short drop with a pot full coons in it.

It is pretty much the same story every year.Just about any fur related magazines(trapping, hunting, etc.) always start hyping up the market that most fur is going to be great. This non sense usually starts aruond July or August to get trappers and hunters fired up to buy traps,supplies,dogs,bait,lure,equipment,etc.,etc.
Then by this time of the year the truth is known that coon especially have gone up or down by just a little from the previous year. This is what I have seen happen over the past 15 yrs. or so.
Coon in my area this year have pretty much stayed the same as last year.If anything they have been worth a little bit less than last year.Just my 2 cents worth.

Not many guys i know are in it for the money but it would be nice to get a few coons that would bring some good money sometimes. not all the time we need a balance.

We have a fur buyer here who pays 15/medium, 20/large and extra large is negotiable. I imagine what constitutes large and extra large is different up north than down south. All hides have to be fleshed and stretched or he won't look at them.

Well it looks like all the talk about $40 coons was just that ,talk! The auctions only sold 8% of the coons offered and the buyers only bought the best of the best. 2400 sold out of 30 000 offered is not good if your selling.

I actually read that also that only 8% sold. Market went from really good(Averaged over $22 last year. Top coon sold for $43) to really bad in less than a year. Hopefully Russia and China and the rest of them over there start to experience a much colder winter soon.

I shot 24 coon this past couple of weeks. Last weekend i took them to a fur buyer and got 144 dollars for 24 coon. I was not disappointed at all. I thought for the economy taking a crap like it did the furs were still at a fair price.
