The Sierra line of Redbones came from Stockton, California. The Sierra Kennel belonged to the late OW Hill, who used his Redbones to hunt bears rather than coons. He hunted in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, hence the Sierra name. OW Hill also liked to show his dogs in UKC bench competitions, and he had many grand champions and one world show champion. You won't see hunt titles on his hunting dogs because they were strictly bear dogs, but they were highly regarded among bear hunters. The dogs that were OW's personal dogs usually have "Hill's Sierra Red..." in their names (Hill's Sierra Red Commando, Hill's Sierra Red Queen, Hill's Sierra Red Ace, etc.).

The Sierra line is disappearing these days. Most pedigrees that are "Sierra breeding" have OW's blood quite a way back. It's pretty diluted. A handful of people maintain an interest in preserving this very worthy line, including me. Most of our dogs have some Sierra blood, and our most recent addition is a pup from a frozen semen litter out of GRCH 'PR' Hill's Sierra Red Vindicator and a female with strong Sierra breeding (dam is only living dog in pedigree).

If you have some specific questions, feel free to send me a private message.

I know a breeder who has a couple Sierra dogs, Sierra Red Chief, and Sierra Sunrise, and they are great dogs. Both are Grand Champs.
