Well on the Hayes side the lipper dogs or houses dogs I think would be a good cross and on the sacket side I would breed to plenty of sacket breed dogs. Hope this helps

Hope this helps THAT MEANS HAYES WAS TOP AND BOTTOM SIDE, ANYWAY. sACKETJR WAS A GREAT DOG. HIS DADDY WAS GREAT DOG. THE ONLY THING THAT RAISED MY EYEBROWS ABOUT JR WAS HIS BOTTOM SIDE WHICH I WASTED TEN YEARS FOOLING WITH. HOW HE MADE A DOG I WILL NEVER KNOW. BUT HE DID. FLUKE OF GENETICS I RECON.

I had a great dog as a grandson of Jr. His daddy was off Jr of course. Jr. was dead. My pups daddy was middle age and my dog I kept till he died at 13 years old and that was 5 years ago. For you to have a grandson off Sacket Jr the years don't tally out. Are you positive that your dog is not a great grandson off Jr?????

Being young and new to hunting ya probably shouldn't be doing any studding or breeding. There is a lot to think about, consider, and work done in breeding, and even them things rarely work out as planned. I have a friend that has been hunting hounds for 20 years plus, and just started to decide to put together a nice kennel of females and start to breed. He bred a female this spring, to a well known stud. He took a week off of work, spent a good chunk of change on the stud fee. Gas,food, lodging etc. Came back, she took, but had an extra large litter, and one of the pups died in her womb and became infected. Had to drop another couple grand on emergency surgery, only 3 pups survived. Let me tell you those are 3 very costly puppies.
Breeding is complicated and difficult and should be left to the pros. The biggest challenge most dog breeds face today, are inexperienced breeders putting poor quality litters on the ground.

Sackett JR was killed on the road in 1997. as far as I know RED EAGLE MACK is the last living dog directly out of JR.. mack is 16 yrs old. I have 4 dogs from 2 yrs old to 4 yrs old that are all GRANDSONS of sackett jr. RED EAGLE MACK BORN JULY 10TH 1997 AND STILL IN GOOD HEALTH AT 16 YRS OLD. the bottom pic in my sig is sackett jr.

Hayes was known for throwing well balanced hounds. He also threw some great reproducers, stylish harry, hardknockin Cindy, Hayes jr. To name a few. A lot of studs go back to harry, so a lot of walkers dogs now of days have Hayes at least once in there ped around the fourth or fifth generation.

find a female with the same traits as your male.

Sounds like you got lucky then, sounds like he's a medium hunter, bawl on track, chop on tree, and has the coon. This is the type of dog most hunters prefer, and try to find. When looking for a pup or breeding pups you will here many different opinions. None of them are full proof. I personally would recommend buying a pup from a reputable breeder, that breeds for the traits that you like. If your dead set on breeding him, I would make sure to have your local vet check him over, for genetic health issues, bone structure, underbite, over bite, hips etc.
More then likely though to find a pup that is just like him you will need to keep most of the litter, and the pick the one that resmebles his hunting style.
Or keep track of them after you sell them, and try to buy the best one back for a good chunk of change.
