people generally dock the tails of curs. Obviously, some aren't docked, but as all-purpose varmint dogs, the length is generally just handle length--to give the hunter something to grab to pull the cur out of trouble!

A cur is likely to get pretty bored with retrieving. And if it is inclined to keepaway, most can be induced to "drop it" by a pinch near on the tuck-up--the skin flap in front of the hind leg.

Could be he is a blue lacy that is red in color. Let me explain. Blue lacys are now a Texas state offical dog. They come in blue, blue/tan (like a rott but with blue replacing the black), and red (can be deep red to brilliant yellow). Mine is bright yellow. Lacys tend to have yellow eyes but not always. The Lacy brothers were the ones that brought the lacy breed to Marble Falls where they then spread. The brothers donated the pink granite that graces the Austin capitol building from their lands. If you want more info then go to: www.lacydog.com/

Worth a look.

Gosh, I never knew there we so many breeds of dogs that look similar!
I enjoyed looking at the Blue Lacy page, and at the Kemmers, and the Yellow Curs. I'm just gonna call this dog a yellow lab though, and be done with it!
His head is too big around for his body, and his skin is an odd color, but he probably just has some mixed blood. He is very gentle, but constatly "mouths" everything. I mean, constantly! Puts your arm in his mouth and nibbles, grabs other dogs by the throat and nibbles gently, I bought him an Elmo doll, and he shakes it, flips it, and gently nibbles it all day! What a clown.
Thanks everybody for filling me in on all the wonderful breeds of dogs you use at your house, and the ones you are fond of.
The people on this board are the best!
