Lck makes good sense along with several others. A couple things to concider though; often a rabid skunk won't spray and they are one of the worst critters for rabies. The second thought is when possible let the live trap set in the sun. On a warm day a skunk dies fairly fast in a livetrap in the sun without stinking.

How do you dispatch skunks so you don't get sprayed, that get caught in your dog proof traps? Same thing with livetraps.

A few years ago I caught one in a leg trap in my garden. Now I live where I can't shoot. I thought the hole was a rabbit hole. So I called the town guy to come get it. Worth the $160! The guy slowly walked up to it with a tarp in front of him talking to it nice-nice. The laid the tarp over it and let it's leg out through the tarp. He put a box next to the tarp and scooted it into the box with his foot. He said if they can't see you they won't spray. The dangerous part he said is getting the tarp over them. I've never had the ___ to try it myself. I hate those things.
