I know this is one of the hardest things to fix and I have truthfully never had a whole lot of luck with it. 7 years old is pretty old to still have this problem. The problem is that even it you get it to behave in your presence you cant always be there and when he is out of your sight you will most likely have problems. I would just hunt him by himself jmo.

I have a female right now that I was told was very aggresive towards other dogs but she has never so much as raised a hair to any of my dogs in the 2 months I have had her.

your best bet is if you have never hunted him with another male just talk to one of your buddies that has a male and tell him the situation NOT A YOUG DOG either and go hunt with them and listen and watch very closly if he gets mean dont bother bringin him off that tree

Id take the guys advice you got the dog from.(He knows the dog better than anybody). Some dogs you just cant hunt with other males. Some are just flat out mean and will fight anything..Some will only fight with a dog. They got into it at one time with..They just hate the other dog..(Ive known dogs) That hate One breed Like Black-n-tan or Blueticks...Redbones .Some of the meanest dogs. Ive ever seen were females. Some just hate anything on tree with them...LOL ...The best thing with Ill dogs is to hunt them lone .Or figure out how to hunt them..Id never hunt a (Ill dog) With a young dog or pup...Theres a lot of guys that hunt alone .They would love to own anything that will just tree.....If you dont think the dogs going to be what you want. (Be honest about the dog) and Sell him to a guy that hunts alone....

An ill dog deserves to be put down. At that age, there's no turning it around. Hunt him by himself is the only way to go. I certainly would not hunt my dogs with an ill dog and I know most people won't either. What do you think will happen when you hunt that dog alone and someone else in the area is hunting also and your ill dog attacks another person's dog? I've seen it happen. Just a thought to think about. I would either try to get my money back or simply put the dog down.

There is always a way around things like this and aparently it's been tolerated from him for 7 years so just find out how the previous owner handled it.

if he's only mean towards male dogs maybe gettin him neutered will help. it might make him less agressive and if he's that way any how you probably don't want to breed him.
